Do you want to be one of my beta readers?
I’ll be your best friend and love you forever if you do. 🙂
What is a beta reader?
Creativity doesn’t happen in a vacuum — beta readers are a vital part of the writing process. Beta readers are some of the first people to read an author’s finished manuscript. They give feedback on spelling and grammar, story structure, plot, characters, and offer suggestions for improving the story.
A beta reader is more than a reader — they give their time and energy to the story, helping the author make their work the best it can be. They spend time reading, responding to questions, and asking questions of their own. They think about the work and how they can help it grow; a task not taken lightly.
Being a beta reader is not for the faint of heart, but it can be a rewarding experience for those who attempt it. It is a lot of work. Because it requires a time and energy commitment on your part, I ask that you not make it lightly.
This is not a paid position.
A promise to you:
In return, I promise to take our relationship seriously. While there will be deadlines and schedules involved, I promise to try to always give you a reasonable amount of time for what I am asking of you, when and where possible.
I promise to listen to what you have to say. Please understand, it might be hard for me. Us writer types are moody and sensitive, and taking constructive criticism can be hard, even for the best of us. But I promise to always keep in mind that you are the one doing me the favor, you are the one helping me with my craft, and I will honor your gift by being humble enough to listen.
