Germ Warfare

Eyes water,

sunken shallow pools

of lackluster luminescence.

Nose, simultaneously

stuffed up and runny,

confused about its role.

Chills roll like waves

over body, drawing away

as quickly as they crashed.

Blanket comforts,

before a storm of sweat

proves it to be unbearable.

Each minute the body shifts,

from cold to hot, and back again,

as it fights an unseen enemy

that crept in, announced by

a sneak attack that left the host flat on her back,

drained,

devoid of energy for two days,

the battleā€™s outcome bleak.

By day three, the enemy has been surrounded,

numbers weakened, they cannot escape.

Eyes still sunken,

nose still confused,

energy returns

as body prepares to return to normal.
